According to police, investigations revealed that a suspect from Boralesgamuwa, who was arrested in connection with drug trafficking involving narcotics brought into Sri Lanka from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), had allegedly used illegally obtained funds to purchase properties under the names of his son, father and another close associate.
Acting under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, investigators issued freezing orders effective from Oct. 8, 2026, for 14 days, preventing the sale, transfer or other transactions involving the identified properties.
The properties include:
* A gymnasium located on Dehiwala Road in Boralesgamuwa, valued at approximately Rs. 35 million.
* A tourist accommodation facility, a house and agricultural land in Thiththawelgolla, Dambulla, with a combined estimated value of Rs. 35 million.
* A residential unit in a luxury apartment complex in Yakkala, valued at approximately Rs. 30 million.
Police said the freezing orders were issued to prevent the disposal or transfer of assets while investigations into their suspected links to drug trafficking continue.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations to establish the origins of the funds used to acquire the properties and their connection to the alleged drug trafficking operation.
