Our coverage ranges from national affairs and politics to business, sport, science, technology, lifestyle and international developments. We place particular emphasis on public records, official data, accountability and stories that deserve more than a single news cycle.
A name with a history
Lakbima News traces its name to the English-language newspaper established in 2007 as a sister publication of the Sinhala newspaper Lakbima. The original newspaper formed part of the Lakbima newspaper group operated by Sumathi Newspapers.
In 2026, lakbimanews.lk began operating as an independently run digital news publication using the Lakbima News name.

Our approach
We aim to do more than repeat announcements. When public records, statistics, court documents or other primary material are available, our reporting uses them to add context and test claims against the evidence.
Sometimes that means comparing figures that have rarely been placed side by side. Sometimes it means returning to an old story to find out what happened after public attention moved elsewhere.
When factual errors are identified, corrections are made. Readers and subjects of our reporting can contact the newsroom when information requires clarification or correction.
A headline tells readers what happened. Good reporting should also help them understand why it happened and what the evidence actually shows.
Ownership and editorial responsibility
Lakbima News is independently operated. Editorial decisions are made separately from advertising and sponsored material.
Paid or commercial material is identified as sponsored content so readers can distinguish it from editorial reporting.
Our rules covering sourcing, corrections, conflicts of interest, right of reply and editorial responsibility are published openly.
Read our Editorial PolicyOur commitment
Readers should be able to understand where information comes from and, whenever possible, examine the underlying evidence themselves.
