The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has ordered a fine of Rs. 42,000 on a man from Wattala who was found guilty on 16 charges, including distributing fruit drinks using labels containing false information.
Delivering the judgment, the Magistrate also directed that the stock of falsely labeled fruit nectar seized during the raid be completely destroyed.
Court submissions revealed that the individual had been engaged in this small‑scale business for about five years, evading officials until his arrest.
He was apprehended through an undercover operation, following which the raid was carried out by Colombo Municipal Council Public Health Inspectors.
The officials subsequently filed the case before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court, leading to the conviction. (Newswire)
