ITAK General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran has issued a polite request urging the public to refrain from sharing “provocative” comments in the public domain regarding the case of Sivarasa Anojan, who faces the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, Sumanthiran highlighted that community leaders across ethnic and religious lines, particularly Muslim political and religious leaders, are actively working to secure a pardon and cancel the execution. However, he noted that certain “evil forces” are attempting to disrupt this unity and derail these efforts by deliberately sharing views in public to provoke Muslim brothers.
Describing such actions as unfortunate and harmful to Anojan’s interests, Sumanthiran warned that sharing any views in public other than appealing for Anojan to be pardoned is dangerous and could disrupt diplomatic efforts.
He appealed to the public to guard their tongues to ensure the life-saving efforts succeed, ask the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pardon Anojan, and pray for him, while advising people to refrain from commenting on the post. (Newswire)
