SLT-MOBITEL has appointed Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage as its brand ambassador, the company said in a statement to Lakbima News. SLT-MOBITEL described Pathirage as a national record holder and a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and said the appointment forms part of its programme to support sports and youth development.
According to the statement, Pathirage began his sporting career as a fast bowler in junior cricket before switching to javelin. SLT-MOBITEL provided a short biography alongside the announcement that lists his competitive results and medals; the company said more detailed records are available in national athletics federation listings.
SLT-MOBITEL told Lakbima News the firm sees the partnership as a way to promote sporting opportunities for young Sri Lankans and to connect those initiatives with the company’s public outreach. The company said the ambassador role will include appearances, community events and promotional activities aimed at schools and athletics programmes.
Pathirage declined to comment to Lakbima News at the time of publication; SLT-MOBITEL said it will release a schedule of activities in the coming weeks. The company asked media to refer to its statement for the full list of Pathirage’s achievements and the terms of the engagement.
