Major Club Women’s Limited-Over Final
Eighteen-year-old Shehara Induwari from Devapathiraja College, Rathgama produced a deadly spell of off-spin bowling taking 6/25 off 10 overs to bowl Badureliya CC to a comprehensive 97 runs win over Panadura SC in the Major Club Women’s limited-over final played at the Colts grounds yesterday.
Panadura SC were bundled out for 105 after losing their first five wickets for 15 runs chasing a target of 203. A 50-run stand for the sixth wicket between Amadhi Wijesinghe (21) and Rashmika Sewwandi (48 off 73 balls, 6 fours) saw them cross the 100-run mark. Badureliya CC invited to bat first put up a decent total of 202-7 with skipper Sumudu Nisansala (56 off 105 balls, 4 fours) and Rashmi Nethranjali (30) putting together a partnership of 90 for the fourth wicket. Seamer Piumi Wathsala captured 4/27 for Panadura SC.
Shehara took the Player of the Final award of Rs. 75,000 as well as the Best Bowler of the Tournament award of Rs. 100,000, while her team Badureliya CC collected a cheque for Rs. 500,000 and the Gwen Herath memorial trophy as champions. Panadura SC received Rs. 300,000 as runner-up. The Best Batter of the Tournament award of Rs. 100,000 was won by Nilakshika Silva (who is currently away in Dubai for the Women’s Asia Cup), and the Most Valuable Player award of Rs. 150,000 was won by Malki Madara. The awards were presented by SLC Head of National Cricket Operations Chinthaka Edirimanne and Shamara Herat, daughter of late Mrs. Gwen Herat. (ST)
