Major Clubs limited-over table toppers from Group A, Moors SC, suffered their first defeat, losing by 44 runs to Ace Capital CC at Moors SC grounds yesterday.
Moors SC, with 9 points from six matches, must await other results to confirm a place in the semi-finals. The top two teams from each group advance to the last four.
Defending champions CCC, who did not play yesterday, sit second with 6 points and two games in hand. Ace Capital CC’s win moved them to third, also on 6 points with one game in hand. Panadura SC are fourth with 5 points and two matches remaining.
According to the scorecard, Sri Lanka under-19 left-arm spinner and all-rounder Chamika Heenatigala took 4 for 36 as Moors SC were bowled out for 207 while chasing 252. Ramesh Mendis top scored for Moors with 48. Thisara Ekanayake (54 off 88 balls, 4 fours) and captain Pawantha Weerasinghe (60 off 59 balls, 6 fours, 1 six) put on a century partnership as Ace Capital CC finished 251 for 9. For Moors, seamers Santhush Gunathilake (4 for 43) and Shiran Fernando (3 for 42) claimed the wickets.
Colts strengthened their position at the top of Group B with an eight-wicket win over Havelock Park rivals BRC at Colts grounds. BRC were dismissed for 184, with seamer Dilshan Madushanka (3 for 38) and spinner Akila Dananjaya (3 for 34) doing the damage. Pawan Sandesh scored 57 off 86 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes) for BRC. Colts chased the target after an opening stand of 145 between Shalin de Mel (85 off 90, 6 fours, 2 sixes) and Randunu Ganganath (69 not out off 95, 4 fours).
