Member of Parliament and former minister Ravi Karunanayake was taken into custody today when he appeared before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to give a statement, the commission said.
CIABOC alleges that three employees recruited for a National Lottery Board special project were assigned to his political activities, causing a financial loss to the government.
The commission says Karunanayake was summoned on several occasions in connection with the probe but did not attend those summonses.
Commission officers visited his residence recently. After that visit, Karunanayake appeared before CIABOC today and was taken into custody pending further inquiries. (Lakbima News)
