Sri Lanka tennis star Thehan Wijemanne has produced a remarkable run in 2026, culminating in a historic Triple Crown at the Sri Lanka Nationals and further strengthening his reputation as one of the country’s leading Davis Cup players. With Thehan’s triple, he now has 8 national titles, one Men’s Singles, 3 Men’s Doubles and 4 Mixed Doubles titles under his belt.
Wijemanne’s outstanding season began at the YETI SSC Open in January, where he captured the Men’s Singles title and partnered his brother Methvan Wijemanne to win the Men’s Doubles crown.
His success continued at the prestigious 111th Colombo Championships in June, where Thehan completed another sensational Triple Crown. He secured the Men’s Singles title, won the Men’s Doubles title with his brother Methvan, and added the Mixed Doubles championship to complete an impressive treble.
Thehan then played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup campaign in July, helping the national side earn promotion to Group III for 2027. His contribution further underlined his importance to Sri Lankan tennis at the international level.
The biggest highlight, however, came at the Sri Lanka Nationals in August, where Wijemanne once again produced a Triple Crown-winning performance. He captured the Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles with Methvan, and Mixed Doubles titles, completing a historic championship sweep.
The Nationals triumph also created a special moment in Sri Lankan tennis history. Forty-nine years after Arjun and Sujith Fernando achieved National Doubles success together, brothers Thehan and Methvan Wijemanne have now added their names to this distinguished chapter. Their Men’s Doubles victory will see their names placed on the Sri Lanka Tennis Archives and Hall of Fame Board.
For Thehan, the achievement caps an extraordinary 2026 campaign featuring two Triple Crowns, major singles and doubles titles, and a valuable contribution to Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup promotion.
Methvan’s doubles success adds another important milestone to his developing career, following his 2025 Under-18 Singles Championship.
