Sri Lankan tennis player Thehan Wijemanne has had a successful 2026, completing a Triple Crown at the Sri Lanka Nationals and adding to his national title tally. With the latest wins he has eight national championships: one men’s singles, three men’s doubles and four mixed doubles.
Wijemanne’s season began at the YETI SSC Open in January, where he won the men’s singles title and teamed with his brother Methvan Wijemanne to take the men’s doubles crown.
At the 111th Colombo Championships in June, Wijemanne again won the men’s singles, the men’s doubles with Methvan, and the mixed doubles, completing a second Triple Crown for the year.
In July he played in Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup campaign and helped the national team secure promotion to Group III for 2027.
At the Sri Lanka Nationals in August, Wijemanne repeated the Triple Crown: men’s singles, men’s doubles with Methvan, and mixed doubles. Their men’s doubles victory echoes a result from 49 years ago, when Arjun and Sujith Fernando won the national doubles together; the Wijemanne brothers’ names will be added to the Sri Lanka Tennis Archives and Hall of Fame board.
Thehan’s results in 2026 include two Triple Crowns, major singles and doubles titles, and a role in Sri Lanka’s Davis Cup promotion.
Methvan’s doubles wins mark another step in his development after his 2025 Under-18 singles championship.
