Wellampitiya drug raid: Over 12kg of heroin and crystal meth (‘Ice’) seized
Police arrested a 38-year-old man from Sedawatta, Wellampitiya, after a raid on September 2 that recovered more than 12 kilograms of illegal drugs. Officers say the operation targeted suspected trafficking in Wellampitiya and nearby suburbs of Colombo.
Seizure details: heroin and Ice quantities
According to the Colombo Divisional Crime Division, investigators seized 4.17 kilograms of heroin and 8.055 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly called “Ice.” Police also found Rs. 300,000 at the scene, which investigators recorded as suspected proceeds from drug sales.
Suspect and alleged supply chain
The suspect is a resident of Sedawatta. During preliminary questioning he said the drugs came from a trafficker reported to be operating abroad, which suggests possible cross‑border links. Investigators are working to verify those claims and trace how the consignments reached Colombo.
Ongoing investigation by Colombo Divisional Crime Division
The Colombo Divisional Crime Division continues to investigate suppliers, distribution channels and financial links connected to the seizure. Forensic tests will confirm the substances, and police say they are following transaction records and witness statements as part of the probe. Court proceedings are expected once formal charges are filed.
