Sri Lanka’s men’s rugby sevens team will aim for a medal at the 14th South Asian Games in Pakistan, scheduled for April 3 to 11, 2027, with sevens included among the event’s 28 sports.
The South Asia Olympic Council Executive Committee confirmed the Games at its meeting in Islamabad, according to a council statement. Organizers said about 3,200 athletes from seven countries, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, are expected to compete for 346 medals.
Sri Lanka Rugby said the sevens squad will combine experienced internationals with younger players as it targets a podium finish. The union told Lakbima News that selectors intend to use the Games to test combinations and assess form under match conditions.
Past South Asian Games have given Sri Lankan athletes regional exposure; national officials view the 2027 edition as an opportunity to evaluate players for future competitions. Pakistan will host events in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar.
