The Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today ordered the Director of the National Hospital to submit a report on the health condition of former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Sallay, who is being held under detention orders in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
The report must clarify whether Sallay requires continued inpatient treatment or can be released.
The order followed a request by State Counsel Oswald Perera, appearing for the CID, who argued that Sallay had remained at the National Hospital for over three months, preventing investigators from recording statements.
Perera noted that statements from individuals linked to Sallay have already been obtained and further inquiries are pending.
President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, representing Sallay, did not oppose the request for a hospital report but stressed that doctors had already advised on Sallay’s condition, adding that the CID had not yet attempted to record a statement despite his client being fit to do so.
He also reminded the court that a medical board had previously been appointed to examine Sallay.
The Magistrate observed that medical reports from the board had not yet been received and directed the hospital director to submit a fresh report.
Meanwhile, the other two suspects in the case were remanded until September 15.
