The Court of Appeal today heard a petition that asks the court to nullify the parliamentary seat held by MP Archchuna Ramanathan. Ramanathan’s counsel asked the judges to refer the matter to the Supreme Court.
Attorney Senani Dayaratne, appearing for Ramanathan, told the court the legal question should be decided by the higher bench and formally requested the referral.
The Court of Appeal said it will issue a written order on the referral request in due course.
According to documents filed at the Court of Appeal and seen by Lakbima News, the petition challenges Ramanathan’s eligibility to remain a Member of Parliament. The case remains before the court while judges consider the referral request. (Lakbima News)
